Experiencing Covid-19 in Cambodia - Episode 1

On the 13th March 2019, My mother-in-law was came to Phnom Penh.
She didn't visit us when my husband and I lived in Tokyo (actually Saitama prefecture). which made me a little sad, because she could have experienced tons of Tokyo things' such a Karaoke, robot restaurant, eating sashimi, enjoying shopping and seeing sky-scraper buildings or even jam-packed train if she visited us. but seemingly she decided to come Cambodia instead. Frankly speaking, I thought her decision was so brave because you know, this trip was her first overseas experience aside from visiting Australia. (As you know, New Zealand and Australia are really close... so I don't count this experience lol) I am sure mostly people would hesitate to come here. Having said that, even though the Cambodian civil war was over four decades ago, it is still a third world country. It is not safe compared to New Zealand. You don't want to visit here willingly, especially at her age, in the  60's. So that's why I thought her decision was brave and the fact she is willing to come here to visit us is something I am grateful for.
We went to Siem Reap to see the historical Angkor Wat after she arrived in Phnom Penh. It was wonderful. I knew Angkor Wat was empty due to the Covid-19, but it was much emptier than I thought it would be. I actually had visited Angkor Wat twice before this trip. First time was in 2005, Second time was in 2010. There were milliosn of tourists both times. You couldn't even have personal space especially at the famous time of sunrise. This time was completely different from my last two  experiences. You could run around and sleep inside the temple if you wanted to. We didn't have to  follow the recommended route instructions because it was too empty (Notice: It was not our decision. Cambodian Offical tourist guides kindly let us do) So we really enjoyed the empty elegant temples.
On the second morning, New Zealand government decided to require every person who came back from overseas to need 14 days in quarantine. My mother-in-law was really in anxious under this situation.
We went back to Phnom Penh with anxiety.
